Chavis has been criticized for his use of the Mustang defensive package. Tennessee defensive backfield players line up between 5 and 15 yards away from the players they are covering in his scheme. The third string quarterback for a struggling UCLA team opened the 2008 season by beating Tennessee. With future NFL players in the defensive backfield in Demetrice Morley and Eric Berry, the secondary of Tennessee continues to struggle to stop short or long pass plays

sorry but at best it'd be an average hire pro. His style isn't much better than the current regime

We are doing that now anyways. Who cares. How about we support the guy until he messes up like our DCs this year or ya know, maybe gets hired as our DC.

I'm not complaining about him. I'm just pointing out the fact that regardless of who is hired, there are going to be people that complain or question the hire. Seriously, names haven't even been brought up yet and people are acting as if it's a done deal.

One guy speculates about Chavis on a Georgia radio and 10 minutes later, there's people complaining or questioning it.

I'm on the Greg Robinson bandwagon.

If that's the best availible, then that's the best we can do. It is an upgrade, I don't want to hear otherwise.

I say take him. He is a proven D cood. and it's a safe hire. Miles wouldn't be taking any risk with this guy. He wouldn't have to any on the job learning as well.

He is proven in the SEC.

He is probably one of the better hires Miles could make.

Be happy.

What's the problem with Chavis? He is an experienced, proven DC. That's excatly what LSU needs right now.

Me, too. Bumpas (if that's even possible) would be acceptable as well. I wouldn't object to Tenuta, either. Chavis has lots of experience and success, but I would have to be convinced.

of course he's an upgrade....but we could have hired a retarded chimp and it'd be an upgrade. If it were my arse on the line I wouldn't put my trust in chavis

Sorry I don't want a 60 year old who calls his D from the pressbox. That way LM can continue the "hug and chew" discipline for D again next year.

Chavis was born in 1956 which makes him 52 years old; has had championship defenses; won big in the SEC, and is often on the sideline coaching the defense.
