Kelly’s a better than average coach who is used to competing against Indiana, Boston College, Illinois and Navy. But he’s not used to the constant competition of the SEC. Last year means nothing if you can’t keep recruiting, improving and competing. Reminds some of Aub’s past coaching hires that didn’t hold up.

Believe Kelly may get it done eventually at LSU but he’s got to hire better staff for that to happen. Not wholesale changes but definitely changes on defense. Kelly brought ND to the playoffs yet ND was willing to let him go.

So for $10M/ yr, what does he actually do?

Not a DC
Not an OC
Not training a position
Not a recruiting guru
Not a good motivator

So seriously, what does he do?

He’s going to have a real tough time when Texas comes into the SEC next year. They have an endowment larger than Harvard’s and plenty of billionaire alums to help them buy any players they want with NIL. The SEC will be dominated by 4 or 5 schools with money to sign players. Schools like LSU, the Mississippi schools, AR, KY, Vandy, etc will be on the sidelines. The top 5 from the SEC and the Big 10 will be the schools in the playoffs.
