I personally don't think Desantis is a terrible politician or a weak conservative, I also don't believe the current political environment is the best environment for DeSantis style politics. Currently there are millions of Americans who are vehemently against the federal government passing legislation restricting abortion nationwide. Remember Lindsey Graham torpedoing the 2022 midterms for R's with his ill timed proposal for a nationwide abortion bill? Trump put that issue to the state level and that's where it should be. Many of those millions of pro death people would not vote for DeSantis, many could be swayed to vote Trump because he has allowed the states to make abortion laws the citizens of each state agree to and many of those people lean populist/libertarian.
