The people most threatened by lower income raises are usually people who are marginally well off in poor states. Their economic status is the most fragile. Otherwise who would care what they pay the girl at the GAP in DC or the burger guy in Boston?

Or people who make a few dollars more than these proposed minimums. It hurts their feelings to know they've been demoted to bottom dwellers.

5-6 years ago, Wells Fargo tellers were leaving to go work at Walmart stocking shelves because the salary/benefits were better.
