WREG News 3 in Memphis just reported a "close source" has intimated LA Tech HC Derek Dooley is going to be announced as the next Mississippi State head coach.

Could they at least have taken a little more time? Why the hell Derek Dooley?

Almost every coach is a former Saban assistant....

yes, at LSU and with the Dolphins. He's a pretty sharp guy, though I doubt Lombardi could win at State.

Doesn't MSU have to go through the process of interviewing minority candidates before hiring a HC?

hard to believe it happens so fast. It almost seems like they were looking prior to Croom resignation.

Thanks Bait.

I found the Rooney rule in the NFL. It seems strange that things are happening fast at MSU.

It would be a great hire. Dooley is also a law grad. Sharp dude but state is like slumming with Rosie O'Donnel.

Man, I don't know about the rest of you, but I really do feel bad for Sylvester Croom. I wish he could have stayed or worked something out.

He's a law grad? He will probably challenge every play. Games will last for days. Rules will need to be changed to allow teams rest and meal breaks.

It will be like watching a monopoly game as a spectator.

Some of you seem to know nothing about Derek Dooley. His dad was not a half bad coach at Georgia.

Good luck to the guy. But, with Saban 80-90 miles away and Nutt in state thats gonna be a super tough job,

I concur. LA Tech is probably not the optimal job but it is much better than MSU. It would not make sense for Dooley to step into the first and worst SEC job available. His present position has good pay and he is also the AD.

He has the opportunity to make a lot of progress at Tech and to build a resume for premier coaching and administrative jobs that will be available in the future.

He played football at UVA and earned a law degree at UGA. He left the law to become a coach. He has excelled at recruiting and did a little time with Saban at the Dolphins. I think he is looking beyond Starkville--unless they offer a really insane amount of money.

Um...no. Our next coach will be paid between $2-2.5 million. No offense to coach Dooley, but we can find a better coach than him.
