I’m back running dogs this year. I’m gonna shoot my SBE 2 3.5”. I just got some Winchester double xx OO that is 15 pellets and 1450 fps. Is there a buffalo bore version of buckshot? Should I get some 1 or 2 buck? Is there anything better/faster? I’m thinking about buying a Carlson buckshot choke. Any advice?

TSS is definitely more expensive. 3.5in #2 or bb apex is about 70$ a box of five. If you don’t have the baddest round in the camp you will definitely have the most expensive.

No advice on the choke. But my local Walmart has had 3” #1 lately so I’ve been stocking up. I believe it’s 1350 fps. Just aim for their nose when their hauling arse and you should be fine.

Miss the days of hearing hounds especially when they are headed your way.

Not sure on the larger shot but a buddy gave me a patternmaster code black for my SBE cus it didn’t fit his nova and it’s impressive how many 9tss it puts on target at 50yd

Use federal flite control buckshot. It is incredibly consistent and patterns far better than anything else I've ever used. Get a cylinder choke and be amazed. It is that good.

I always like 1B the best, but I don't think it really matters much.

That’s why I’m getting back into it. It’s the same club I grew up in. Same camp same everything. They don’t kill many big ones but kill a pile of deer. I tried stand sitting with my little one last year. He has way too much energy for that. He loves the dogs, radio, and 4x4s. I can also strap the 1 year old in and go hunting. I’m looking forward to this season.

Really cylinder? You want a bigger spread and not range?

It doesn't work like normal buckshot. The wad is what makes it work and it generally patterns tighter the more open the choke is. Cylinder is usually tight and modified more open.

Buy some and try it. It's amazing. It might even pattern too tight.

I bought a new gun this year and went to pattern different buckshot loads with different chokes. At 40 yards, the wad was right there at the target. So you are 100% correct. I really didn’t see much of a difference with the 3 chokes, was putting 5-6 pellets in a paper plate at 40 yards with all of them.

Shoot the TSS if possible. Straight lethal.

The wad will hit the target pretty often.

The main thing with buckshot is consistency and limiting your range. Federal flite control is ultra consistent, albeit maybe a little too tight of a pattern for some people. It can get to the point that a slug would make more sense.

Love the Winchester DoubleX copper plated stuff. Shoots way better than anything I've used and its deadly.

I do use the Carlson buckshot tube on my Beretta 391 Urika.

I’m going to go with this for now. I love the tss but it might be too good. Pass throughs at 70 yards seems a little dangerous in my situation. I’ve killed a lot of deer with buckshot but most were out of a tree or sitting on the ground. The flight control sounds good too. I couldn’t find much available. I’d be willing to give it a try. I might buy some of the tss just because it’s badass.

That's my go-to as well ... when I can find it. It's almost impossible to find.

The Flite Control wads are a modern miracle.
