On the north side of Indy… Westfield/Carmel/Noblesville are good options. Outdoor amenities are somewhat limited though. Turkey Run is the best state park nearby. Would not recommend living inside Indianapolis proper.

Agreed. There are some extremely good school systems in that area. South of Indy toward Brown County it starts getting pretty wildernessy.
