Come on Texas. Our grid is supposed to be impenetrable

Thank heavens for the wind generation keeping everyone online! Seriously.

Just their way of easing us into additional charges over the winter months. They have no intention of improving or securing the grid and forfit profit.

You live in East Texas, and the first place you turn is to "greedy company" bullshite? Not the legislature? Not Ercot? Not the dumbshit from Oklahoma State that has filled rural Texas with turbines that fail to provide power when needed? Replace wind capacity with more Nat Gas or Nuke capacity, nobody would be having problems at 6pm on a weekday.

No way, surely we can trust these protected corporations to look out for their customers. The Market would not allow otherwise.

When it comes to ERCOT and Austin empty suit promises of changing our situation for the last 2 years? Damn right I do. Hell, look up the ERCOT Board. Shills.

I'm in this business, and I hate it. The boys in Austin are so dumb. Get used to it.

Texas has invested way too heavily in intermittent weather-dependent power generation and has not invested enough in thermal baseload generation. Here are the consequences:
LINK
This is absolutely pitiful. Of the 38MW of wind capacity installed, I doubt it ever generates 100% of nameplate capacity even for a second. On average, you can expect about 30-40% generation for wind. Solar is slightly better but cannot produce at night where wind can if conditions are right.
This also very hard on the thermal generation that has to ramp up and down every single day due to the intermittency of the renewable generation.
EDIT: hot off the press from yesterday… natural gas, coal, and nuclear represented over 80% of generation in Texas as the sun went down and the wind stopped shining during peak demand.

Note that of the 38,695 MW of installed wind capacity, its summer capacity is only 10,427 MW. Less than one-third of the installed wind capacity can generate power on hot summer days because of reduced wind speeds. On August 4, 2023, the wind generated only 6,276 MW which is only 16.2% of the installed wind capacity.

Wind and solar are not reliable enough to maintain grid stability and therefore require dispatchable power sources such as coal, nuclear, and natural gas-powered generation to stabilize the grid. Until sufficient utility-scale battery storage is available, which is unlikely anytime soon due to the cost of current technologies, the ERCOT power grid and all others will require substantial natural gas generation capacity to maintain grid stability.

I sold back to the grid for $5 a kwh today.
My Aug bill was -21 bucks.
Ha!

Let’s go to less dense forms of energy…that’s the solution!

Do you have a lot of panels?

I recognize that graphic, but none of the morons here will pay attention to it this time either. Time for beer.

Nah. Apparently all is well and Austin blowhards aren't the issue. It's us, the consumer.

“Texas” doesn’t invest in any of this. It’s privately owned and operated assets.
