Was watching this highlight tape from X Games 2006 when amongst other 1sts, Pastrana hit the double backflip for the first time
The Adventure - X Games 2006
nowadays its crazy what tricks are being performed but feels like nobody cares. Saw some kid named Mitche Brusco hit a 1260 off the big air ramp..what the frick?Back in the day it was a spectacle and felt as if everyone watched during the summer.
Obviously Tony Hawk aging out plays a part but, when did the X Games peak in popularity?

Tony Hawk doing the first 900 might be the greatest moment in X Games history. A few years ago some 11 year old kid hit a 1080.
Pastrana doing the double was huge, now they're doing double front flips. It's crazy to see the progress in these sports.

They should've never got rid of street luge. Greatest event ever

I can definitely speak for the skiing crowd. Pipe and slopestyle are just huck fests at this point. I’d rather watch backcountry and what they film in urban settings. The most popular event is the knuckle competition because there’s still an aspect of style.
All that to say it’s absurd what these kids are doing now. Developing at Woodward when you’re a teenager is a big part of that progression.

Between this and the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater games it was crazy to see skateboarding explode the way that it did. There actually really good, separate documentaries on Tony Hawk (I think on HBO) and the THPS games that have been recently released.
