Dam this got heavy, glad you are clean and sober now. I have family members who are alcoholics and talked about how bad the withdrawals are and the shakes and how shitty they felt ,but what you described seems like another level. As for me I never really got addicted to anything. I started smoking on in Iraq during the night shift cause I find it kept me alert and quit when we got back. To me it was more of a habit than an addiction and it took a month or two to break it completely.

It’s different but I’d never knock what a true full blown alcoholic might go through as well. That can be absolutely brutal and even deadly, something that opiate withdrawal isn’t (the benzo withdrawal can be though).

Drugs are fun in moderation but some of us simply aren’t wired for moderation. Whether it’s booze or heroin or fatty foods, some of us simply can’t use like a normal person. And unfortunately with booze or heroin once you do enough long enough the hell sets in and you’re an absolute slave to it. I by and large stopped getting high, certainly nothing like the beginning, I had to use to function and not be sick.
