Sealant with backer rod is the proper sealant method at the window to lintel. You should have flashing between lintel and brick with weeps at about 24"-36" on center between the folder bricks. It looks like you do not have flashing, although it could be buried in the grout. I also do not see any weeps. This will cause rusting of your lintel and cracking of your masonry grout above the lintel in the future.
