It was much easier to enforce such measures in August 1918 considering we were in a global conflict and the Wilson administration, coupled with a Democrat-controlled Congress, had already passed draconian laws which jailed political dissidents and those who spoke out against the war.

Perhaps this is one of the reasons why Republicans made gains in the 1918 mid-term elections.

ETA: It must also be remembered, however, that the mortality rate for those infected by the Spanish Flu was a staggering 20%. The Wuhan Flu's mortality rate for those infected was something like 0.05%.

I wonder what the government would have done in 1918 with citizens destroying cities because a drugged out burglar had a heart attack while being detained by police.

Look man… no mortality rate is worth infringing on the rights of Americans.

False.
Wuhan mortality was about 0.5% during the first year. You were off by a factor of ten. Plus, you are off by a factor of 8 on the Spanish Flu, which had an overall mortality rate of about 2.5%
Scientific Study Comparing Covid 19 and Spanish Flu

So 0.5% for Covid and 2.5% for Spanish Flu makes the Spanish Flu 5 times as bad. You had it as 400 times as bad.

Your overall point is correct - Spanish Flu was a lot worse. What made it even worse is that Spanish Flu tended to kill young people, while Covid tended to kill old and infirm people. The mortality rate for 25 to 35 year olds, for Spanish Flu, was 8 to 10%. Horrible!

I used to think Woodrow Wilson’s tyranny wouldn’t succeed in our modern society of instant communication and free flowing information.

The past few years have taught me he would fit right in today, and his approach would be as successful as it was over 100 years ago.

But I am not aware of Wilson mandating masks. He actually suppressed news reports on the severity and dangers of that flu strain. Americans personally witnessed the dangers of it, and took precautions themselves despite the Federal Government denying what they were seeing with their own eyes.

Maybe the leaders of Boston said F—- the Feds, and instituted laws on their own.
