Are you really bringing that inshore? There’s no perfect boat for what this state offers. You have to choose what your main focus is, I’ve caught plenty of nearshore in a 24’ ranger, among others. But considering the trolling motor required and draft these 27’+ are impractical

My Tidewater 2410 Baymax has been great for inshore and offshore. Ive taken it 45 miles offshore. 80 gallon tank, big front deck for inshore, floats pretty shallow for a 25'bay boat. 300 Yamaha averages 2.3-3.0 mpg

Good price point boat but I did load mine.

Nahhhhhh I'm pretty sure I could find a way to live with it.

A 24' bay boat is just too damn small and shallow for offshore fishing. The weather has to be perfect, the engine has to be perfect, you have to run slow in all but the lightest seas, and you're in legitimate danger if some purple stuff gets between you and shore.

They just aren't built for it and the vast majority of them are flat out unsafe in big water.

Kinda like buying a truck, your boat needs to be built for the worst thing you plan on doing and you just gotta live with it for everything else.

Agreed. Some of these 26ft+ boats draft like 14” that’s perfectly fine for decent inshore fishing

No one plans on getting caught in 8-10’ seas on Lake Pontchartrain, but it happens…

Going with your logic we should expect Freeman’s to be common place on Toledo bend.

There’s an ancient OB thread on here where someone claims to get caught in them.

Wayyyyyy different. It's damn difficult to get more than a couple miles from a covered boat shed to hide under on toledo bend. I do like flexing on the glitter boats there when the north wind is whipping though.

You spent much time fishing boats that size? They don't draft much. I think my boat drafts 18" and it's just fine for catching reds in the marsh.

What size? Ran 25 black Jack and 24 ranger for many years. Took them 25-30 miles south of Mardi Gras rig regularly to catch snapper. You have to pick your days. I’ve been caught by squalls in both and would take the Ranger hands down. Don’t need a giant boat to do both, just need to be smart.

I know it can, same as the sound, but 8-10ft?...outside of a hurricane scenario?

I really like the look of these when I've seen them, but don't know anyone with one. Sounds like you've enjoyed it, but build quality is good and no issues? I'll be looking for a 24ish bay soon. It may make me too confident, as I already run a 20' bay boat all over like a scalded dog.

Yeah I agree. Everyone exaggerates. But Lake P 4ft feels like 8ft because it a straight chop at like 1-2 seconds so I give it a pass

For sure. MS sound is same way. Always get a laugh out of the wave heights people claim, because of the short period whipping their arse. It's always 1-2sec.

My favorite is the florida guys saying “I do 60mph in 6ft seas and don’t even spill my beer”

Like yeah you probably do but it’s a 10 second period. And more like 3-4ft. Do that down here and you’ll need a chiropractor and a really good fiberglass guy to fix all of the cracks in your boat.

The 28-30' stuff. The bow is still short enough for a trolling motor but they handle rough water really well.

Well, yea. But when you're less smart than you should have been a bigger boat is always better.

I've been running 24' kenners for a few years now and that thing starts getting real small real fast when it starts kicking up. I'd gladly trade it for a 31 contender with twins

Ran one for several years. Amazing boat. It’s wet, but it’s an amazing hull. Been 220miles one way in one.
