This is maybe the only place on the internet that didn’t think Winston looked solid last night

Guess it’s because we all saw him throw into triple coverage several times with balls that should have been intercepted. And a bunch of times he had a ton of time to throw the ball but didn’t get rid of it.

He is going to be probably the most quality backup in the league this year

I don’t have an issue with him being the backup this year. We’d be screwed if Carr gets hurt either way. I dont think he’s close to being the best. I’ve said multiple times I’d take Dalton over him. Probably quite a few others including Bridgewater.

Here’s an outsiders opinion on the best.

The very article you just linked has him 5, which is pretty close to being the best, and an argument can easily be made that with the players we have he would play the best out of the ones ahead of him.

Hard to take the article too serious with this little tidbit in there
quote:

With Winston struggling to adjust to the scheme, Saints coach Dennis Allen quickly turned to Dalton this past season and Winston started only the first three games. In 2021, Winston averaged only 167.1 passing yards per game, and he threw for 14 touchdowns and three interceptions in seven starts.

The only reason DA switched to Dalton is because of Winston's back injury and I'd imagine that international flight caused more pain that he could tolerate. Once Dalton stepped into that role, there was no way DA could make the switch back.

And I am sure the "quickly" part will be comical to many on the board as Winston should not have started against Carolina. It was obvious his back was bothering him against TB, but DA waited until the medical team pulled the plug instead of making the decision himself.
