Will Blood Meridian ever be made into a movie? (Update Alert)

I am of the opinion that it is the one Cormac McCarthy book that will never be made into a movie. All of his others have been, or might be, but Blood Meridian ... no way. It would be next to impossible to translate it into a movie script/screen play.
That is, imho, a testament to the genius of not only his writing style but the entire storyline/plot of the book.
Have you read it yet? As with all of his stories, he's not for everyone.
(Updated below, six months later. Just unreal.)

It's in the works.
John Hillcoat, who directed The Road, is the director.

I just finished reading it. They wander around a lot in the desert, for a movie imo. Would like to see it on screen, along with someone playing the Judge, but not sure how the script would track, as far as character development. Why they(the characters and the group as a whole) turn bad when they do, for example.

I think at some point it will get made.
But I don’t think it will be good. Much of the story doesn’t not translate well to the screen. And the level of violence would be hard to capture, or would make it incredibly difficult to watch.

If this was 1950, maybe. In the 21st century I don't see how any book ever written couldn't translate to a movie considering the technology available to film makers. And something like blood meridian where 90% of the book is just boring wandering around int eh west, that could easily be done. Take your pic of a hundred other movies and shows set int he american southwest.
The only thing that may be, I guess "difficult" is some of hte violence, but again that's only limited by the skill of the director. Scalping indians and dead babies in bushes aren't things that are physically or literally impossible to film.

Mel Gibson is the only living director that would do it right.

The audiobook by Richard Poe is amazing.

I hope not. Great book that does not easily translate to a movie. A crap movie version might result in fewer people reading an American classic.

Listened to Blood Meridian on Audible recently.
At different times the Judge reminded me of:
- An intellectual sermonizing King Kong Bundy
- A bald and thoughtful Dusty Rhodes
- Vincent D'Onofrio playing Wilson Fisk - Best candidate for a movie?
Oh the mental adventures that come up when literature and pop culture meet.

This thread encouraged me to start the audiobook and so far I’m loving it. I knew nothing about the book before this thread and didn’t read any spoilers so I don’t know what to expect.
With this thread in mind, and I’m only an hour in, but so far I haven’t encountered anything that seems unfilmable.
