I like Dave and Adams or Layton sports cards but they mostly rip for you and dont ship sealed
That said I was at the first 3 days of The National last month and found all three to be disgusting scumbags. Between Tuesday night and the opening of the show on Wednesday night (release day) Topps Chrome Jumbo baseball boxes went up $100. If it's possible, support a LCS and buy from them.
Panini may be going rogue so I'd be careful with anything that might have redemptions. Topps is now owned by Fanatics, not a family business anymore.
I believe Topps puts out a Bowman U basketball box for around $125. I love their football version of it. I'd go with Topps Chrome baseball and perhaps use the basketball budget on 2 boxes (Bowman U and the rest on what you can afford).

Man I saw a pack of baseball cards at Walmart the other day selling for $25 a pack. I stopped and double checked. And I doubt they even have gum in them.

As of now panino does not have nflpa license, nbapa may be pulling their license in the coming weeks. Panini may be done.
Also, be careful buying topps chrome bc all the big hits were stolen by college kids that were supposed to get the player to sign them. They then signed the cards themselves and got card graded by psa, cgc, asgs And bbcs and selling the fake auto cards. So topps 2023 is a risk right now bc boxes won’t contain big hits and those big hot cards being sold may be fake autos and they are graded making it worse.

Seems like a good place to ask...
I have a bunch of old cards from the late 70s and early 80s
Mix of NBA, NFL, MLB, Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back, Superman the Movie, Battlestar Galactica. Some Star Trek I think.
How the heck would I find out if they are worth anything?

Look up a few on ebay. Anything post-1985 until the late 90s is considered "junk wax". If you have star players before those years they could be worth quite a bit if they aren't beat up. If those Star Wars cards are from the first set (and in good shape) you may be looking at some serious money if they grade high.

I would be interested in the star wars. Previous post is correct and it is worth researching. If you don't want to do the research then factor that into your price

Sounds like I need to find the time to do some digging

Just had an argument with my wife over where they were. Thanks jerk
What you looking for? Pictures? Card Numbers?
Not sure which would be interesting.
Number 239 - The young Star Warrior. Have 3 I think
Number 260 - Han Solo. Have 2 or 3
214 - Luke and Leia
219 - The swing to freedom
200 - C3PO
249 - Ben Kenobi
256 - The marvelous droid
255 - Luke with his weapon

Just to clarify my previous post. Good shape for mid-late 70s cards would be at least 3 good corners, no creases, and factory surfaces (ex. no one taped either side and then ripped the tape off). I didn't know the hobby all that well while I first collected as a teen in the 80s. I have a bunch of cards from my favorite set design ('87 Topps) that were either held together in stacks by a rubber band or have staples from me putting them on my corkboard. They're worthless.
That's not even my biggest regret. It's 3 boxes that I've opened before the Covid bubble. Opened a box of '85 Topps in 2013 (now worth 4x what I paid then), '89 Upper Deck LOW (traded what I later found out to be fake autographed picture plaques for the box...worth quite a bit now), and one of my gifts for Xmas in 1986...'86 Topps FB which is compounded by the fact that I gave the nicest Rice from it to my cousin who grew up to be a prick.
I don't want my email hanging around this board so if you're still around let me know and I'll put it up briefly in case you need some specific advice.

quote:Yep. If they're in good shape the next argument with the wife is probably going to be over the cost for grading them. ('77 would grade best with PSA.)

I know the young Star Warrior card is worth over a grand potentially mint.
I know they won't be mint but they are in very excellent condition but I know basically nothing about grading

Don't invest in items that can be recreated or reproducted
Just go buy silver
You're welcome
