The payments may have been made to the fiancée of a VCU player, but they were made while he was at LSU. The violation stemming from his lack of cooperation with investigators happened while he was at LSU. Had LSU not cooperated and turned a blind eye to those violations, there’s a good chance they would have issued stronger penalties to the institution and not gone light on the Level 1 football violation. They were given the benefit of the doubt on that one based on their response.
