Best fishfinder mapping unit under $800

Looming to upgrade from a Pireanha. Looking at the Humingbird Helix 5 or 7. My priority is fish finding and mapping. And the auto mapping of bottom contours.
My concerns are getting a unit that can download local maps as opposed to only the manufacturer maps.
And screen visibility in sunlight
Also is it essential/very helpful to get a unit that can link to the trolling motor or is that not necessary.
21 foot bay boat. Unit screen on console
Thanks.

I did some looking last week and ended up with the Garmin UHD2 93sv. It’s a little over your budget but you can get the older UHD 93/94sv on sale for around $800 at west marine. Basspro had it for $699 last week but I guess they’re gone.
ETA: $699 at Dick’s

Unless side imaging is your #1 priority, I would go with either Garmin or Lowrance.

Why did you choose that brand and model?

I knew the brand i wanted to begin. Lowrance was out because my last unit only lasted 3 years.. and I’m not a fan of hummingbird or their layout. The garmin is very user friendly and has really high resolution and brightness to help with sunny days. I chose that model because it had everything I needed in my price range. It’s one of their top sellers.

how big of a deal is side imaging?
Seems like something that would be very advantageous if you were trolling along a bank

Which Livescope do you have AlxTgr? I'm looking to upgrade a second boat I bought recently.

Is LiveScope any good in saltwater marsh?
Does LiveScope only go in bow mount or transom mount too?

How compatible is Garmin with non Garmin charts. It seemed like for inshore fishing you need the Garmin Coastal chip and then can you download non Garmin stuff like you can with Hummingbird ?

Whenever you order a mapping chip you have to specify whether your unit is Garmin or not. I think there is specific programming for Garmin and those chips can't be used for any other manufacturer.
Third parties do make chips specifically compatible with Garmin units though

The one I got comes with Navionics+ so I’ll be covered on entire coast. But yeah you can buy map cards for garmin

Where did you buy the UD2 at and did you get the 54 or 56 transducer?
What made you buy the US2 as opposed to the UD? About 1100 vs 700 difference it seems.
Have you used it in saltwater yet?

Are you running it off one or more than one boat battery?
Posted on 8/9/23 at 8:25 am to Sixafan
It’ll be running on my cranking battery.

Was it hard to set up?
Transom mount?
New cable or were you able to use your old cable?

I’m letting the shop put it in for me while my boat is there for annual maintenance. Couple Benjamin’s well spent IMO
