re: Additional attic venting to assist ridge vents

You can have too much ventilation, especially with power vent fans or even wind turbines. You can create a negative pressure in your home which is another set of issues to deal with. Look up negative pressure - attic ventilators.

I have ridge vents and added 5 turbines (non powered). My attic temperature at 4 pm with full sun & 102 deg F outside Temp is at 122 deg F. I added 6" of fiberglass insulation between the roof rafters and covered that with 5/8" plywood decking. The more 'through roof' open area for venting, the lower the attic temperature will be. Decking over the rafters simplifies attic air handler maintenance/replacement (also attic water heater).
