I think he was a victim of the scheme at the time as well. If I remember correctly, the DEs were regularly tasked with playing contain rather than getting upfield. Even if it was exaggerated around here, 3rd & Chavis was a meme for a reason.

Bingo. Johnny Football never beat us. This was the reason. LSU contained him, kept him in the pocket. He couldn’t get out of it. That’s one of the reasons he didn’t make it in the NFL. In the NFL, you have to be able to throw from the pocket.
