How much money will Oregon lose out on?

If they beat Oregon State?

I believe 17 million / 10 = 1.7 mil

Well, if they beat Oregon State, the PAC-10 will only have one BCS team... do they split up the money out there like SEC teams do?

If Oregon beats Oregon St, then the PAC10 would only send one team to the BCS games (USC to the Rose) instead of two (OSU to the Rose and USC at large), so they would not get to split the revenue within the conference that the second BCS bowl would bring in.

imo, this is one of the reasons CFB is so great. Oregon would probably love nothing more than to frick Oregon State out of a Rose Bowl game, even if it costs their own program $1.7 million or so.

Nike University won't skip a beat over losing 1.7 mil
eta: Mr. Knight might pony up even more than 1.7 for a big W

Oregon's athletic department isn't hurting for money...also if they win and SC loses to UCLA, they get in the Rose Bowl, driving up revenue from everything else that comes along with a big bowl game

From what I understand we are eliminated from any chance of going to the Rose Bowl. If we were to beat Oregon State, and USC loses to UCLA giving us all 7-2 conference records, the tiebreaker goes to Head-to-Head vs the 4th placed team, Cal. Oregon lost to Cal, USC and OSU beat Cal. Then OSU would go to the Rose Bowl since they beat USC. That was according to a Eugene Register-Guard columnist.
The Pac 10 will be secretly pulling for Oregon State to beat Oregon to get two teams in the BCS, but aside from the obvious, that Oregon wants to destroy its rival and keep them out of the Rose Bowl, pissing off Tom Hansen is a good thing.

I thought in a BCS conference, ties went the way of the more highly ranked BCS team.

Each conference sets their own tie-breakers.

well that makes a lot of fricking sense.

This is from the Pac10 website...
quote:
b. Multiple-Team Ties. (1) When three or more teams are tied in Conference play, if one has defeated all others, it shall be the Rose Bowl representative. If that is not the case, a comparison of the tied teams' records against the other tied teams shall be made and the team having the best record against the other tied teams shall be the Rose Bowl representative. If two or more teams are still tied after this comparison, the appropriate two-team or multiple-team tie-breaking procedures shall be repeated among those teams still under consideration.
(2) If more than two teams are still tied after the process above is completed, each remaining tied team's record against the team occupying the highest position in the final regular season standings shall be compared, with the procedure continuing down through the standings until one team gains an advantage.
I think since we went to the Round Robin format this has been used. For a few years we may have used highest BCS ranking, although it never came to that. Until earlier in this decade, it was always which team had gone the longest amount of time since it's last Rose Bowl appearance... even if they shared the same record with another team who had beat them in the season.

It does actually. Tie-breakers need to be different for conferences that play true round robins like the PAC-10 and Big-East, than the Big-10 which skips 2 teams each, and the 3 12 team conferences with divisional formats.
