No, all Kamado grills have a ceramic firebox at the bottom, with a heat diffuser that can be placed inbetween the fire and the meat.
Ceramic grills are incredibly insulated and (for the most part) self regulate. Air flow is controlled by 2 air vents at the top and bottom.
