Wasn't LSU wanting him to be a preferred walk-on?

I went to hs there and was wondering. I haven't talked to anyone from Denham in a while who would know. I was just wondering.

Ah, okay. Last I heard Les offered him a preferred walk-on and he accepted.

Oh ok. Thats good to hear. I knew Nick had been sending Coach Nettles good luck letters each Friday prior to their game, and now that Denham is done with their season I was thinking he may have made a decision.

Being from Denham though, I would think it would be hard to lure a player to anywhere but LSU if offered

he has a offer from McNeese and god knows we need a kicker. Hopefully he takes a full ride as opposed to being a walk-on.

What is a preferred walk-on?

Promise of a roster spot without a scholorship?

I saw him play when he came up here... He looked very accurate on his FG attempts, and probably accurate under 45, but I'm not real sure of him over that. He doesn't seem to be a kickoff guy from what I could tell, very inconsistent and not a great deal of power. The kicker from Byrd (jr I believe) is the best kicker I've seen this year, by far.

He's had a ton of touchbacks this year......very strong leg.

I don't recall any of his kicks being touchbacks at Ruston, in fact I remember several miss kicks and being disappointed with his kickoffs. The Byrd kicker had all of his kicks land behind the back of the endzone, leaving no doubt about his leg strength and consistency.

Someone may correct me on this, but I think a preferred walk-on has a roster spot and is up for a scholly the following year depending on performance.

Hes not good enough. My boy kicks for LA. Tech and said that Lewis came up to the kicking camp and had a chance to get an offer but got totally dominated by three other kids and La. Tech went ahead and offered Matt Nelson a kid from Texas. If hes not good enough for La. Tech then he must not be to special.

Just looked at Josh Lewis' stats on MaxPreps.com. In fairness, these stats don't include his last 3 games, one of which they were shutout, so there was no FG there.

FG's made - 5
Punts - 1 for a mere 8 yards
Kick offs - Only 12 out of 21 went in the endzone. This is from the 40 yard for high school. The rest would be outside the 10 at the college level.

He sounds over-hyped to me. Nothing personal, I'm just looking at the stats.

drew alleman is the man i hope he gets some playing time next year. I loved watching him boot 50 to 55 yarders in pregame, and he is a clutch kicker as he won the state championship on his last second fg from about 45 out

Think he made a 50 plus yarder which is very rare in Baton Rouge HS football plus the name made a nice story for the advocate. Thought I read he was like 2 of 5 last season.

From what I have read, he made a 57 yarder in one game and a 52 yarder in another. He apparently has a pretty good leg(although his stats say only 12 of 21 touchbacks on kickoffs), but I can't find out how many he's missed. Consistency is the key here. If you look at the number of attempts beyond 50 yards at college or even in the pros, it's rare to even take the shot. Colt David had a very rare year with two 52 yard field goals in the same season. For most colleges, the coach would rather have a kicker that is 80-90% inside of 45 yards than one that can hit at 57 but is 50-50 overall. Accuracy and consistency are more important than distance simply because of the numbers that are taken inside 45 versus outside 45. Just look at Melhoff who was picked up twice by the saints, strong leg, but couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. He even missed PAT's. Of course, they cut him.
