I wish you the best of luck pursuing that position at LSU. It won't be easy though. Drew Alleman, redshirt this year, has a strong leg and may be gunning for that position as well. Drew was also an excellent punter is HS, so he may go that way which would leave the KO spot open for you.
Good Luck.
Good Luck.
jaa727,
How reliable is your source? My understanding is that McNeese wanted one guy to handle all kicking and punting duties just as Blake Bercegeay did. According to Josh's stats, he only punted once this year for a whopping 8 yards. I wonder what's up with that.

From what I have read, he made a 57 yarder in one game and a 52 yarder in another. He apparently has a pretty good leg(although his stats say only 12 of 21 touchbacks on kickoffs), but I can't find out how many he's missed. Consistency is the key here. If you look at the number of attempts beyond 50 yards at college or even in the pros, it's rare to even take the shot. Colt David had a very rare year with two 52 yard field goals in the same season. For most colleges, the coach would rather have a kicker that is 80-90% inside of 45 yards than one that can hit at 57 but is 50-50 overall. Accuracy and consistency are more important than distance simply because of the numbers that are taken inside 45 versus outside 45. Just look at Melhoff who was picked up twice by the saints, strong leg, but couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. He even missed PAT's. Of course, they cut him.
Just looked at Josh Lewis' stats on MaxPreps.com. In fairness, these stats don't include his last 3 games, one of which they were shutout, so there was no FG there.
FG's made - 5
Punts - 1 for a mere 8 yards
Kick offs - Only 12 out of 21 went in the endzone. This is from the 40 yard for high school. The rest would be outside the 10 at the college level.
He sounds over-hyped to me. Nothing personal, I'm just looking at the stats.
