I understand why they went almost exclusively 90s (target audience age and recency bias) and it's spot-on but they missed the goldmine of teen movies known as the 80s.
Breakfast Club gets a cameo and Ricky is Duckie from Pretty in Pink (which probably fell flat for most as it's not even a terribly popular movie even for 80s kids) but then it's mostly:

American Pie
10 Things I hate About You
Bring it on
