I very rarely post here, but I read a few of the boards on the daily. One of my side hustles is to paint portraits of athletes.

I currently sell through Facebook. I’ve been working on a series entitled ‘Small Town Heroed.

I’ve broadened my horizons a TINY bit to encourage all OK former/current athletes/public figures.

I just thought I may try to direct some of y’all to the page in case SOMEONE wanted an LSU athlete or even family n

Try Saatchi Art. My SIL is an artist when she’s not teaching and told us about it. We’ve bought a couple of things off there.

My dad is a top shelf artist. And it’s hard for him. Most folks don’t have the $$ or desire for originals. It’s probably gotten worse with the inflation factor and limited income.
Not many rich folks wanna buy it unless directed to.

It truly is a hobby for the most part. At one time doing prints was pretty good. But too much eBay etc watered the market.

Coffee shops are another prominent venue for local fine artists. Also downtown fine art boutique shops. Have also seen quite a few set up shop at various festivals (town fests, music festivals, etc) and such. It kind of depends on your style where you might want to feature them. Whereabouts are you located?

I’m in small town Oklahoma. Not too far from Stillwater.

I have a friend telling me that rich people will buy, just have to market to them. Honestly, the rich are the ones that have paid the least in a subjective market. ‘You know how rich people stay rich, dontcha’

I knew it was a long shot, but I was hoping TD had some kind of place where I could dream up an LSU painting for y’all just as an example.

Best bet is to set up your own website with a shop and sell your prints and originals there. You'll have to do some basic social media marketing via Instagram, facebook and the other usual suspects, but it's cheap and easy. Most of the turnkey services like WIX have templates and sales integration ready to go.

Any of the other places like Saatchi Art, as someone else had mentioned, you'd need an artist rep or an agent to connect you with galleries or in your case, since it's athletes, memorabilia shops.

Also know that if you're doing portrait work, you could end up with licensing issues, unless you have permission or a partnership with the athlete. Most of them have incorporated themselves and their image and likeness is a protected IP.

If you're staying small you might fly under the radar, but don't be surprised if you end up with a cease and desist order in the mail.
