I'm coming at this question from the pov of someone who was raised with a sibling that suffered from severe anorexia (and other mental issues)and it contributed to her early death.. No treatments cured her and literally everything was tried. Denying HER reality seemed to exacerbate her view of being over weight. When we backed off and accepted her view of herself or at least did not fight it and tried accommodate her eating and exercise habits she became less focused on it... at least for some time.

I'm sorry for your loss and I'm sure it was devastating and frustrating for you to have to deal with someone mentally ill. I just don't see where encouraging negative behavior helps in the long run. Obviously it didn't help in you case in the long run again sorry you had to go through that.
