IDK where youre getting that new code from, but this is my drain, and only one in the pool
the government's website and my own pool that was just built 2 years ago that has the 2 drains 5' apart and domed covers per the regulation i cited 3 posts up.

its awesome & junk that you have an older pool before the regulations went into effect but that doesn't change the fact this is how all pools are built (including the OP's) so stop acting like its not a problem.

he will absolutely have a pool built this way so I'm trying to help.

there's literally hundreds of posts on TFP discussing the issue and how to work around it w/ dolphins.

its ILLEGAL to change my drain to a flat one. i've asked 3 different pool contractors locally so i actually do know what i'm talking about.

when it went into effect as law is less clear.

Your guy either saved a couple dollars to not put a flat anti vortex drain or he didn’t know at the time. By flat it only comes up about 3/4 in or so. I don’t think you can come back with anti vortex once it’s plumbed unless you tear out concrete.
