Live Northwest of Atlanta in a neighborhood that essentially every yard has a tree in the front. Issue is the trees roots are destroying everyones yard. Ive been told when they originally planted the tree they did the wrong type no idea if thats true or not but anyway. Trees roots are very much on surface and has killed all grass around it and a good portion of people in neighborhood are getting them cut down, stumps grinded, either putting nice flower beds in, or a new tree or just going straight grass.

What time of year is best to start this process to get grass coming back and do that whole process? Or does it really not matter?

Grass is growing when the temperature is over 75 degrees. Cut the tree, now, and you still have a few months of warm weather for it to grow.

How do you want to get grass? If you want your current grass to start to fill in and take over the area then cut it down now. If you plan on resodding then wait for highs in the 80's and lows in the 60's. Can you resod now, sure. Keeping it watered during the heat of the summer is going to be an issue.

Winter. Cut tree, lay sod. Water less and it will be green for spring. If you do it now you have to water like hell with the heat.

Wait until Nov
