Hate the gumps but you have to admit that when you look at what they have been able to do in terms of translating their football success (and resulting revenues) into improving academics and attracting out of state students…it is impressive. Not saying Bama is all of a sudden Vandy but know several extremely smart LA kids…all who’ve grown up LSU fans…who have ended up going to Bama bc they rolled out the red carpet, gave huge scholarships, and were just all around more impressive academically than LSU. Know many other kids/parents who would have chosen a different school other than LSU as well if they could afford it.

LSU has a lower acceptance rate (71% vs 79%) and tighter ACT/SAT variance than Alabama. A quarter of accepted students at Alabama have an ACT below 21 vs a quarter being below 23 at LSU.

LSU Academics has a marketing problem more than anything else.

LSU also can't offer the money that other flagship schools do. Louisiana is funding TOPS for everyone, plus has 4 year college in every town.
