These frickin asshats trying to get themselves to one specific destination by issuing threats to attempt to dilute their trade market is trash and it needs to end. It keeps working, so these players keep doing it. The owners need to put a foot down eventually. You can’t let the inmates continue to run the asylum. It’s ultimately really bad business for 85% of the teams in this league and it leads to a severe competitive imbalance that can only be countered by drafting Giannis at 15 or Jokic at 42.

frick Dame. Perfectly willing to sign the max contract but then tries to force out afterwards.

One other solution. If you trade for a max player whose team doesn’t want to trade, you forfeit your next three firsts even if you don’t have any the next few years.

They go into the NBA “pot” and can be distributed to teams who get fricked by both made stars. Would kind of be like the compensatory system in the NFL.

Portland gets hosed on a Dame trade? Fine they automatically get a top 5 pick in the next draft and Miami loses its next three firsts.
