I wonder how much he wanted to continue to hit when he first agreed to sign. I know he swung some in the fall. I've never really heard them talk about the decision that he wasn't going to hit anymore. I'm guessing the development he got after one fall with a big league pitching coach, that it wasn't too hard to see where his money was at.

He was very highly sought after in the transfer portal but shite it down after visiting LSU.
He said the “professionalism” of LSU sold him on his visit and he knew that was where he wanted to be.

At Air Force he was a good pitcher, not a great one. Waldrup was probably thought of as a little better transfer at the time. Wes Johnson along with concentrating solely on pitching helped his development skyrocket.

CJJ coached vs AF and their coach tipped him off that Skenes would eventually transfer to avoid before joining the service would be mandatory . I probably butchered the story , but if you heard it before you know what I’m talking about

Couldn't he have just moved to Canadia?

He played catcher at AF along with pitching.

Skenes was a First Team All America selection at Air Force, so I'd say that qualifies as great. He was also selected to play for the US National team before ever coming to LSU.

I’m pretty sure during the Miss St series one of the commentators said he was between LSU and Miss st when it came to making his decision. Not sure how credible that is though.
