Blaming divorce laws is probably short sighted.

To add onto this, what fricks a lot of men in divorce is custody laws.

Not to say that splitting up marital community property doesn't frick men too, but the alimony boogeyman you often see mentioned isn't nearly as much of a scary thing in the state of Louisiana as child support/custody arrangements are.

Interim alimony is only approved (maximum 1 total year) during the divorce proceedings in Louisiana, and permanent alimony is only awarded in situations where the other personal physically can't work. Disability, being retirement age with no work history, etc. It's also based off of their documented expenses - not your income. So unless you were married decades long with a non-working spouse and they were blowing through assloads of your money that they can prove as expenses, permanent alimony isn't a huge risk.

It's child support that fricks you because it is based off of your income, and you have to hope the woman isn't being awarded more than 50% custody.

So.. I 100% understand why many men are opting not to marry, but they better be opting not to procreate too because that's the real frickery.
