If Ukraine had a chance to gain significant ground against Russia, e.g., during the Battle for Kyiv, I'd be all in. That simply is not the situation.

On the other hand, ten lives lost per inch of land gained, is a needless attrition. Any supposed counter-offensive will be measured in lives wasted and treasure lost, not in land gained. That is "needless."
