Jason Whitlock caters to a certain group of people for clicks.

I listened from the 11:00 mark and what he is saying is absolute BS. Juneteenth was celebrated when I was a little kid and I'm 49 years old now (plus I grew up in Louisiana). Trust me.. if you grew up in the black church you recognized and celebrated Juneteenth. No there weren't big parades everywhere etc but it wasn't something that was taught and acknowledged.

I saw the comments Candace Owens made about Juneteenth. She's a really sad individual. But I'm not mad at her. As long as people like her, Jason Whitlock and Rachel Dolezal (or any other apologist on both sides of the coin) can say odd ball comments, get some attention and make a few dollars off of it they will continue to exist.

Must be a TX/LA/AR thing, never heard of in MO. Jason said he never heard of anyone celebrating Juneteenth outside of TX until George Floyd was killed.....sounds about right. Something I didn't know until recently was Memorial Day was the original celebration for the end of the Civil War and the end of slavery so I'm not sure why Memorial Day isn't part of the celebration for the end of slavery? That would make sense to me.

A Google search would dispute that. I can only speak from my experiences. In the 1990's I saw celebrations in Augusta, Ga; Chicago and Milwaukee (I had summer internships in those places.

So in fairness.. I dont know Jason Whitlock or much about him. But for him to say he didn't see any celebration outside of Texas before recent times makes me assume he didn't grow up in a black church or community.

It's been around in these parts as an unofficial celebration by African Americans for at least 25 years. Never really was a "thing" though. Just a barbecue and beer kind of day....usually on a weekend.
