I watched this movie this morning for the first time since it was in the theaters in 1961. It was another great movie by Billy Wilder, but may not be appreciated by those who did not live through the Cold War.

It’s one of the great under appreciated comedies.

I like it. Wilder made Cagney quit acting after this.

A really funny, clever, underrated comedy. Acting and music top notch.

Saw it in the local cinema with my parents when I was a kid. They were in stitches. I didn’t get a lot of it except there was a cute girl and somebody got “tortured” being questioned while forced to listen to something like “Itsy bitsy teeny weenie yellow polka dot bikini”.

In general, anything by Billy Wilder is great.
This one in particular? I loved the whole Coke angle, especially since they did a final joke as a concession to Joan Crawford, a Pepsi board member, in which Cagney buys a Coke from one of his distributorship’s machines and ends up with a bottle of Pepsi.

While the first half is good, the 2nd half of prepping the guy for his new in-laws may be the greatest filmed farce ever.
