Cayman Islands

Going next week to Cayman Islands (Rum Point) with the family. We have a house rented in Rum Point for a week. We already have a boat charter on a non-cruise day to visit stingray city and do some snorkeling.
Anything else ?
We plan to visit 7 mile beach for a day or so.

Probably the least diversified island in the area. It’s basically Stingrays or bust. Beach has not recovered from hurricane at all. Hope y’all have great time. Casanovas has great pizza\Italian and nice setting. And of course Sunshine grill near Governors beach.

Our favorite place. Stayed out by Rum Point. It will be isolated but we are itching to get back. Loved the snorkeling and stingrays. The mangroves for kayaking were recommended, then a couple beach days, trip to 7 mile, maybe Botanical Gardens, you'll definitely enjoy.

Yes we have a car rented for the full trip.
Thinking of visiting Crystal Caves one day/morning since it appears to be fairly close (North side) to our house.

Solid choice, heard about that too.
Rum Point was closed when we were there but went to sit by the beach one day.
We were near by and at Kaibo a few nights. Grand Cayman is nice and safe, loved just walking around the area or going for a run. One thing it is not though, is cheap.
We went to Starfish point because it was a 5 min walk. Honestly, saw many more starfish near our place in the water. SF Point would get crowded with boats pumping out the music so it was not worth it to go except it was close.
Over the Edge has a deck to eat lunch on that has incredible views too. It is not far from where you make the turn onto the road that runs along North Shore from Frank Sound Road.
Get your groceries upon arrival before you head out from town.

Been a couple of times and stayed at a house in Boddentown. A good middle area to be able to head up to Rum Point or over to Seven Mile Beach.
If you like to snorkel I would recommend Smiths Cove and Cemetery Beach.
Grand Cayman itself feels a lot like being in the U.S.. A lot of rock and country music stations, very nice supermarkets, etc.. Very clean and safe with an educated populace and a lot of affluence when compared to some other islands.
Hell is underwhelming but the island is so small with no real fascinating geographical features that it is really the only point of interest besides the wonderful beaches. I think the islands high point is like 50 or 60 ft above sea level.
The best thing about that island is that you feel safe and secure , the absence of poverty and crime prevalent on other islands, and the great beaches and beautiful water.

Two places to eat at away from George Town that I frequent there:
The Caboose (at the northern end of Frank Sound Road)
Authentic, informal, good for Lunch
Vivine’s Kitchen (on the Coast Road at Gun Bay)
Again authentic, just a bit less informal
The QE II Bontanic Park is OK to visit, it’s not far from Rum Point.
Have a great time, I love Cayman, lucky to have business reasons to go there kinda frequently.

Bumping this for reviews and advice. My wife and I are going over Mardi Gras. We have flights but no room booked yet. How was your stay at Rum Point? Do you recommend Rum Point or would it be best to stay closer to 7 mile Beach. Were you able to snorkel near where you stayed? Any decent restaurants nearby? Looking forward to hearing about your trip.

Rum Point was perfect for our family. We preferred the seclusion of Rum Point vs 7 mile beach. We did visit 7 mile one full day and was very nice (went on a non-cruise day). We had 7 adults and 5 children with us and had a home on the water with a pool over looking Rum Point.
We also did Sting Ray city (non-cruise day) and would recommend this highly and get there early. We got there around 8:15-8:20 that morning and was us and only a few boats there. When we left maybe 30=45 minutes later had alot of boats waiting in line. We did the 4 hour charter which brought us to some good snorkeling spots.
We ate at the house most days/nights, but did have some good foot while at 7 mile beach (lunch and dinner) and had a good lunch near Rum Point after the boat charter.
If it is just you and the wife 7 mile beach might be best. We also had more sea grass than ideal, and 7 mile beach and little to none there.

How was the snorkeling on the beach in front of your home? The Satellite photo appears to show nice reefs all around rum point but that could just be grass everywhere. Hard to tell. Did you have a car? Do you know if you can rent boats on your own there or do you need to hire a charter/tour?

The sea grass was mainly near shore, so only had to walk maybe 10-15 yards out to get past it. Our house had kayaks which made it easy to snorkel all around the shore near the house at Rum Point. The reefs were pretty good by our house.
Yes you need to rent a car. Not many cabs and no Ubers there. Get ready to go thru many roundabouts, not many red lights out there. Not sure about renting a boat. We just had a charter.

consider staying at Villas of the Galleon. Great location on 7 mile beach.

Agreed. Least favorite of all our Caribbean trips. It’s still a good time, but I’ll never make a return visit.

While the family and I enjoyed our time in Cayman and Rum Point we will probably not be back. We preferred St. John over Cayman and looking at St. John again or possible British VI as well.

We stayed on 7 mile area. Booked a full day with Double Trouble charters. Took us to Stingray city, rum point, starfish point, snorkeling a few places. Highly recommend them. Calypso Grill is one of my favorite restaurants. Wahoo Escovitch is awesome as well as their sticky toffee pudding. Rented a car for the week and driving on opposite side of road takes some getting used to. The sea turtle farm was a cool experience too. Hell wasn’t really that impressive. Looking to go back when the kids are older. One of our favorite trips to date.
