Haven't read one comment yet but to me, the goal isn't to beat Tennessee - it's to win the CWS. Winning the first 2 games is everything. That said I'd be looking to get by Tennessee by committee.

If Wake Forest takes care of their business, Pitch Skenes against Wake. Of course Wake may well be thinking the same thing with Rhett Lowder.

This brings up a question, who posts first or is there even such a thing. Wake plays before LSU, and depending on who they start, I'd strongly consider saving Skenes for that offense, that trying to get by them by committee.

I am sure many have considered this as well.

I bet the one person who makes the decisions isn't considering it one bit.

JJ threw Skenes against TULANE.....
4 SEED TULANE....
40 LOSS TULANE....

If that doesn't tell you everything you need to know about throwing him against Tennessee, idk what else does.

Thought goes into the pitching lineup by the coach...

I think we see Skenes game 1, Floyd game 2.

Here's the way I read the tea leaves: Skenes is the better pitcher by a good bit, and Wake has a better lineup by a fair amount. But Tennessee is no slouch at all in terms of talent.

Tennessee's guys have seen Skenes and Floyd already. This was when we were cruising, and they were struggling. Skenes handled them, gave up 1 run in 7 innings. Floyd gave up 4 in 5 innings.

I think the idea is that Skenes is as close to a sure win as it gets, whereas Floyd against Tennessee is a tossup, and that will eat into the bullpen.

It would be nice to save Skenes for Wake, but at least they haven't seen Floyd once already. And if Skenes handles business against Tenn like he did with Tulane, you save the bullpen. Our guys will have a game under their belts, should be more relaxed and comfortable in game 2 at the plate.

Don't frick around and get cute in this tournament. A couple really good teams are going to go 0-2, first thing you want to do is not be one of them.

Football fans band wagoning baseball aren't going to understand. They still have an "Alabama football" mentality.

Stanford’s lineup is legit. Wake will have to pitch Lowder against them.

I mean you are trying to be deep and all, but you can't win the first two without winning the 1st one.

Skenes will pitch GM1.

The 'committee' pitching model happens when you don't have the pitching to win traditionally. They may need to go this route eventually (esp if they end up in the losers bracket) but this is not how they want to win games.

With the way the bullpen is pitching (and Hurd's ability to start games and pitch well recently) they ideally want to set it up in a way where the starter pitches deeper into the game and the guys pitching well in the bullpen take over.
