Still not sure why interracial couples were brought into a thread about Perry Mason anyway. I guess he banged that Mexican woman in Season 1 and that sent off a warning flare.
This was not a "woke" series in any way; really weird the way this thread went off the rails. The series kind of reminds me of Boardwalk Empire, and I thought i would like it but it just didn't click for me. The production values looked great (like Boardwalk) but were probably very expensive.

I agree. Never said it was “woke” but I guess that depends on your definition of that word.
My main point is that the producers took a well known fictional story and completely remade it in an extremely diverse manner that doesn’t realistically represent the legal landscape of LA in the 1930s. They obviously did it for a reason. Just curious why producers felt a need to do it. [or rather to get the deniers to admit what is clearly going on]
I thought the show was trying to evoke a Chinatown era LA atmosphere. It had a lot of potential but the story just wasn’t compelling. I’m not really commenting directly about the diversity of the cast etc other than perhaps that the relentless focus on Paul’s home life and Della’s relationship and Perry’s kid (character development) went overboard and meandered too far away from the real murder mystery/courtroom drama
