Shaky and available: Coop, Little

Cooper is better than tRant gives him credit for. As I see it, Coop is a placement/pitch-to-contact type pitcher (for style context, not results, think Greg Maddux). So when he is off, it looks horrible, but when he is on, he gives up hits but not runs and strikes a few guys out as well.

SEC Only Stats top 3 pitchers available based on ERA
Herring 17 1/3 IP - 5.19 ERA - 12 BB
Guidry 11 2/3 IP - 5.4 ERA - 7 BB
Cooper 23 2/3 IP - 5.7 ERA - 7 BB.

I'm also not sure where the idea that he walks a lot of batters comes from, at least relative to this pitching staff.

Walks per 9 inning (all games)

Paul Skenes - 1.54
Garrett Edwards - 1.95
Samuel Dutton - 2.36
Riley Cooper - 2.79
Blake Money - 3.46
Ty Floyd - 3.76
Micah Bucknam - 3.86
Chase Shores - 4.48
Gavin Guidry - 4.93
Nate Ackenhausen - 5.35
Griffin Herring - 5.84
Thatcher Hurd - 5.99
Christian Little - 7.36
Will Hellmers - 7.36
Javen Coleman - 8.85
Bryce Collins - 9.47

Interestingly, his walks per 9 innings went down marginally in SEC Play despite the postage stamp strike zone

Walks per 9 inning (SEC games)

Paul Skenes - 1.59
Riley Cooper - 2.72
Samuel Dutton - 2.9
Chase Shores - 3.86
Ty Floyd - 4.14
Garrett Edwards - 4.41
Blake Money - 4.44
Gavin Guidry - 5.63
Griffin Herring - 6.32
Bryce Collins - 6.92
Thatcher Hurd - 7.02
Javen Coleman - 9
Micah Bucknam - 9
Nate Ackenhausen - 10.5
Christian Little - 11.84
Will Hellmers - 19.69

I don't mind Cooper pitching but I would prefer to see him come in with no one on base.

He’s given up 4 ER in his last 13 IP (all vs SEC opponents) for an ERA of 2.77. His last two appearances pitching to more than one batter he gave up 1 R in 7 IP.

I agree. Expectations need to be reasonable. Giving up 4-5 runs over 6 innings would be a HUGE win. I'd start Cooper and let him go as long as he possibly can. Somebody is going to have to put 3+ innings together, IMO for us to win, and I think he's the most likely to be able to do it.
