Love to hear it.
Cars are an ego trap for most people.
Point A to Point B SAFELY is all that matters.

Bought a 2013 Avalon in 2016 and a 2016 Highlander in 2018. Both are now paid off and we have zero plans to do anything with either car besides maintenance. The Avalon could use some interior work as the leather's falling apart in some spots... But that's it. frick a note.
One of the worst financial decisions I ever made was buying a brand new 2014 Kia Forte. Went in with my eye on a 2010 and let the salesman swindle me into a brand new one for similar note but much longer term. That piece of shite lost 60% of its value in 4 years and the transmission and engine both died. Warranty replaced the engine. I couldnt get rid of that pile of trash fast enough.

I get your point but this is an oversimplification. Comfort matters to some and nicer, newer vehicle have more of those comforts. With that said, there are way too many luxury vehicles on the road for the number of people that can responsibly afford them. Simply put, there aren’t that many people who can safely afford $700 monthly notes yet that’s what a $40K loan looks like even at low interest rates for 5 years.
Good on the OP for being financially responsible with vehicles.

Yes.
at any moment some uninsured dip shite or texting teenager can run into you and total your ride…so having a car that can protect you AND you don’t really GAF about is key. people that have nice cars cost more to insure, and mods, lifts, and other upgrades you do generally don’t get covered if your car gets totaled
I can understand if you’re a “car guy” and your vehicle is part of your hobby and joy of life…but other than that, meh.
I still drive my 1997 four runner which runs great, but had to upgrade to a 2014 SUV with the kids because I wanted the newer safety of airbags, car seat clips, blind spot and brake assist yada yada
