We have a widespread academy program for the first time ever that will undoubtedly raise the talent level as these kids start training as youngsters like it’s done in Europe.
I’m super excited about the start of academies but they are still not being close to the standard that they are in Europe
Yea sure the Philly U-16 beat Madrids U-14 B squad but a lot of the euro academy coaches say they are still seeing the same thing with the development of American players when they play against them. Heavy reliance on athleticism and not much on the technical side. That’s a big reason why the level of kids who don’t bolt to Europe at the first chance they get isn’t that great.
Lots of soccer in this country is still about just have better athletes than the other team.

I don’t get your compulsive need to denigrate anything this league does. MLS academy teams regularly trounce academy teams from other countries. Philly, Dallas, NYRB, NYCFC, LAG, San Jose, Seattle, etc routinely put out competitive teams that win tournaments with academies from la liga, EPL, Liga MX, etc. Arsenal’s U15s just gotten beaten by Philly’s U15/14 team with a 13 year old being Philly’s best player (and best on the pitch).

Uh huh. You got a lot of euro academy coach friends? Because this flies in the face of evidence to the contrary. Benfica doesn’t want to buy Wynder because he’s athletic. Same for euro teams buying Aaronson (x2), Adams, Pepi, Booth, Richards, etc. The floor level of our player pool has increased tremendously over the past decade and much of that is thanks to MLS, though it may hurt you to admit.
