The 2024 recruiting cycle is heating up with the spring winding down and summer approaching, but several SEC schools are already making waves on the recruiting trail. On a recent episode of 247Sports’ College Football Recruiting Show, 247Sports director of scouting Andrew Ivins handed out his mid-spring recruiting grades for every SEC program in the 2024 cycle.

According to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite Team Rankings, the SEC currently boasts 12 of the top-50 recruiting classes in the country.

LSU Tigers: A+

Class rank: National — No. 5 | SEC — No. 2

Total commits: 15

Average rating: 90.39

From Ivins: “We saw in that initial 2023 class, that first cycle for (Brian Kelly’s staff), they recruited nationwide. Fast forward to this 2024 class, he’s already got seven prospects from the state of Louisiana committed. LSU leads on the Crystal Ball for three more guys right in their backyard, so it seems like LSU has figured things out. … They love to use the tight ends, get them involved, that’s kind of the X-factor for the Tigers on offense, and I think (Top247 tight end commits Trey’Dez Green and Tayvion Galloway) are as good of a duo as you’re going to find so far in the 2024 cycle. … So, I really like the group LSU has assembled. I think this is exactly what the Tigers needed to do, and we’ll see how they finish it out.”

Good stuff as always Crown. Brief side note, Michigan is really doing their thing. LSU, however is building with great size, similar to Georgia. I think they’ll have the best offensive line in the nation, starting this or next year and the tight end room is going to be incredibly deep. Kelly is building toward something special.

I have little concern with LSU getting skill players ie WR, RB, DB. QB has improved recently. Consistently getting OL and DL top talent has always been the challenge. If Kelly can keep the trenches full of talent and House can get good LBs this team will be a regular in the playoff discussion. BK is way ahead of schedule where I thought he would be at this time as LSU HC.

If I’m being honest, that’ll never be my concern here. If we were getting 5 star receivers under Les’s offense, we will get them here. Louisiana just has too many athletes for us not to be stacked at the skill positions

I'm torn on this. On the one hand, I trust the coaches way more than recruiting services to evaluate talent and build a roster. On the other hand, if you're going to bring up recruiting services opinions, then I have to comment that when it's this early, they are ranking largely on quantity, and that if you look at their quality ranking (average rank per player) that LSU is probably not top 10 and barely top 5 in the SEC.

Again, the services aren't gospel and there's a lot more to it than just player rankings but no way those rankings hold up as other classes fill up.

Yes I’m all in on 247 at this particular moment , love On3 but there is some egotistical ranking going on with their higher recruiting evaluators, they try to be different no matter the obvious. Will change feelings or opinions when they fall in line with MY LSU bias. I don’t give a rata$$ about how they do it number crunching bs Quality over Quantity spill, wherever LSU is highest ranked that’s exactly what I think.
