the direction of the program....

1) What do you think the general consensus is?
2) Do you care?

Just curious.

Always interested in the opinions of people who know and played the game, especially at that level, especially for LSU. Got something for us?

Sounds to me like Billy Ray Valentine is looking for someone to throw Miles under the bus

Just goes to show you that former football players are not necessarily all that bright.

It's just a question & this is exactly the type of attitude that amazes me. So many think that saying anything negative about Miles or the obvious trend of the team is tantamount to heresy.

Pete Carroll gets a lot that sentiment, too.

And that's in the PAC-1.

Take a look around the SEC. You don't think that guy across the field is pretty good at what he does with a ton of talent.

Expectations tend to be unrealistic for some. It doesn't mean Miles is above criticism. I think Miles would agree that hiring a ST guy and promoting his position assts. to co-DC's may have been a mistake.

I believe Billy Cannon went on record saying that JJ should have been the starter from day 1 ... had this happened, I'm afraid we would be looking at more than 3 losses right now.

LSU took a big step back in losing Pellini. I hope Miles will look at a possible DC hire as a chance to improve. At least make a decision on one of the guys.

Miles is capable of being great. He has given the LSU fanbase every reason to trust him. I truly believe LSU will be back in Atlanta at least 2 of the next 4 years. If rebuilding means losing 3, I am just fine with that. If it means losing 5, not so much. There is still a lot to play for and a lot of reasons to be very optimistic about our future.

Depends really if you're an optimist or pessimist. I fall into the former catagory. There's so much evidence that points to optimism.

I think he is an admirable man and someone I would've loved playing for. BUT, he has a bit of Cholly in him.......Coach Pevey was worth the fight though. Great man.

What would it take to embrace him? 4, 5, 6 - 10+ win seasons......a National Championship..........2, 3, 4 SEC Crowns?

We, LSU fans, are tough.

Oops, your opinion is showing.

Clearly you are just looking for people to support the position you want to hold. Otherwise, it would make no sense to solicit opinions on an "obvious trend." And since no one has ever called it "tantamount to heresy" to say that the obvious trend of the team is positive, that position that you want to hold is clearly a negative one.

And, for the record, very, VERY few people on this board (or anywhere else) would term negative comments about the performance at LSU of a coach who is 41-9 with a National Championship, an SEC Championship, two SEC-West Championships, three top-5 finishes in three years and an unbroken streak of top 25 rankings "tantamount to heresy"; most of us just consider them laughably ignorant. And even more laughable are the comments from people who insist that -- though such a successful coach and his entire staff of successful, professional college football coaches have not thought of the answer to whatever ails the team -- they, the random message-board poster, have it all figured out.

And, fyi, when you have a negative opinion of someone but don't offer it openly yourself, but solicit others to support it first, that is precisely looking for someone to throw that person "under the bus."

Since I'm not a former LSU great I'll reserve judgment on this thread.

The problem I see here is that Cannon (or anyone else here) can fix teeth and provide directions on how to effectively chew and maintain them, but no dentist can chew with those teeth. A lot of us don't even still have the 32 original teeth man typically has (we share that characteristic with the raccoon), so we have acquired new ones, but we still have to chew with them. Sometimes the adhesive doesn't hold right, a filling falls out, a tooth gets chipped, we bite outselves on the cheek, or an abscess occurs, but it's how we adjust to the situation until the remedy arrives that matters.

Life goes on and we should adjust our course to account for the unexpected, for entropy, for anything else. No one has the foresight to know what is to happen, but many people get impatient when things aren't going our way and go awry. I see plenty of "Job's friends" here, but I also see plenty of good, caring people. Remember, Job's three friends had windbag advice--it was his true friends that counted (where were they?). Perhaps Miles is having a Job experience. We all do, so we can learn patience.

So perhaps Billy Cannon (who was my boyhood hero) can just stick to what he's good at now and let Miles solve it. Patience is the key.
