Philly/Northeast Suggestions

Going to Philly for work in late June, thinking about adding 2 extra days at the end to either catch train to NYC or stay in Philly area. Any suggestions on which one to do or any additional areas to try? Girlfriend is coming and has never been to Philly and I've only been to NYC for half a day. I have done Philly before though as well as Colonial Williamsburg. Looking to either fly back out of Philly or NYC. This will more than likely be an annual trip so not to worried about not coming back for other areas just looking for suggestions.

So what do you like to do? Eat/drink? Museums? If eat/drink in Philly I've put some lists on other Philly topics.

Eat/drink and museums for sure. I'm big into history but gf not as much so she is leaning NYC and Im leaning Philly. Gonna catch a Phillies game if we stay in Philly.

Absolutely make sure you head to the Reading Terminal Market. It is an absolutely must if you are in Philly. And if the Phils are in town head to Xfinity Live before the game, have some drinks, then head into CBP for the game.
Scannicchios on Broad for some incredible Italian food
ETA: Philly has an incredibly under rated food scene, so I am sure you can find something that suits you if you do a little research

See my recs below for the Rittenhosue Square area of philly.
quote:
The Dandelion just a block away is the best breakfast/brunch spot in the area. It's British so expect good baked goods especially.
Butcher Bar is close by. Meat centered lunch or casual supper with amazing cocktails. Great burgers.
Parc again is a great French bistro in the square. Big fan of their mussels.
Vernick is a couple blocks off the square and is a really great place to get a nicer supper. Great seafood but also a few non-seafood dishes. Both small and large plates here.
There is a tiny tiny BYOB Italian place a few blocks away called Sotto Ristorante. I always recommend if wanting some Italian. Bring some wine and enjoy.
Grab a 70's vibed cocktail on The Continentals roof bar. It's mostly enclosed and has a 70's 360 degree fireplace in the middle to keep you warm.
If you want an Irish pub with food, the Black Sheep pub is close by. A block further and you also hit Monk's which I mentioned in my first response.
If it's some guys wanting more active drinking, there are golf simulators all over the area with bars. Also Pong which is a ping pong bar that is multi levels.
For stuff to do, I always recommend the Mutter Museum. It's 4 or 5 blocks off the square. So the mutter museum is all about medical history. You'll see a lot of medical abnormalities, disease, etc. It's fascinating if you can deal with that stuff and is first class all the way.

If you make it to the Terminal Market, I would recommend Dinic's Roast Pork sandwich, any sandwich with Pastrami at Herschel's East Side Deli and Amish donuts at any of the Amish bakeries.

Well the gf got what she wanted, so we will be going to NYC for 2 days but will still be in Philly for 3 so definitely gonna try some of the restaurants. Yankee game worth going to?? Don't care for them but haven't been to a MLB game in years.

Yankee game is a good time. It's a bit of a trek up there and will use a lot of time if only there for two days. I highly recommend a Broadway show, specifically book of Mormon if that kind of crude humor is your thing. Supper before, and a late show is a good night.

I like Phillies games much better, as the previous poster said, its quite the hike if youre staying in Manhattan/Booklyn to Yankee Stadium. The food at Yankee Stadium is the best ive had at a ball game. Every concession stand is operated independently but various groups, so there is quite the selection.
Lobels steak sandwhich is pretty tough to beat

This is a strange statement. They’re 6 hours from eachother.
I’ve done NOLA and San Antonio before!

Gettysburg is a pretty decent trip from Philly. About an hour drive and a cute town.
