Mulkey took over a much worse program that had a shite record of 9 - 24 or whatever at won 26 games the next season and then went on to win a national championship this season. Don’t give me that shite.
Mulkey was pulling players from Baylor, not Murray State when she got here. And she did have some players to keep and no NOA.

But besides that, totally the same.

She didn’t have but one Baylor transfer and she left. Mulkey also had to teach a COMPLETELY differ by style of basketball to her team where McMahon had 2/5ths of his starters who WON 31 games last season come in with knowledge of that system. He also had a bench player that contributed a lot from that team. If anything he had a massive advantage.

Basketball isn’t like football with only P5 programs winning every year. If anything it is equal. 2 of the final 4 teams were not P5 programs in 2023.
Murray state won 31 games the year before, was in the tournament and he brought with him an NBA quality player who was the leagues MVP they played in.

Maybe he needed to recruit the Portal better?

Go LOOK AT THE FINAL FOR TEAMS FOR FUN. I did and the team from San Diego State had a FAR WORSE RECRUITING CLASS and yet they made it that far. They also had new players who were not rated as high as those at LSU.

This is NOT FOOTBALL. There were other teams and coaches that won their first year and yet here we are with McMahon.
Excuses excuses excuses.
