Badboy zero turn has the thickest gage deck but again if you buy one get the Kawasaki engine not the Kohler. Stay away from cub cadet, toro, Dixie chopper, husqvarna and Gravely. Exmarks are good mowers but might go over your $8K budget.
Dixie chopper and gravely aren't solid?

Dixie and gravely will be in the shop more than cutting grass. They do have a strong frame as well including decks but electrical issues.
Do not waste your money on Cub cadet or Toro. Go to any lawnmower repair shop and talk to any mechanic. They will tell you what they see the most of.
