They were a lot of really good players in the draft that fit these other teams needs more which is why they were taken before a Nolan Smith. I wouldn't say it was a matter of those teams passing on Smith like you're saying.

So kind of like the Saints biggest need being at DT? You even argued against yourself in this one.

Smith is a very good talent, but is not a player that is guaranteed to be successful. He needs to be in the right system to succeed, and no one is really sure how he will translate from his injury based purely on some drills at the combine.

Saints went for the bigger need and got a player with a ton of potential that showed out better than Smith statistically for each's position.

So its ok for other teams to pass on him cuz he didn't fit but the saints should have drafted him despite the fact that he didn't fit?

We need guys that can step in and play right away. Nolan Smith will have to either learn to play stand up LBer or will be relegated to a 3rd down player only in our defense.
