quote:While true, I kinda had to chuckle at your use of Nady. He got the ultimate cup of coffee in the Majors in his draft year (2000) appearing in one game with one at bat. Then proceeding to spend the entire 2001 season at High A ball, the 2002 season in the Minors (High A to Triple A) and splitting the 2003 and 2004 seasons between MLB and Triple A. It was not until 2005 that Nady became a full time Major League player. Nady career bio from Baseball Reference.com
Xavier Nady did from Cal to the Padres. Crews is better than him, but there are many factors that could sway their decision either way obviously.

there any precedent at all for drafting a player in MLB and having that player make the show that same season that was in progress when the draft took place?
While not 100% on point to the question asked, here is an article from MLB.com on the 23 players who went straight from draft to MLB. Please note that a significant number of which were not in the season they were drafted, but in the following season after being shut down for the rest of their draft year.
23 from Draft to MLB with no appearances in Minors from MLB.com
So, yeah it happens, but it is a rarity and no where close to the norm.
