Can't say for certain about that area, I just know the Gunnison area from elk season.

Gunnison sits at 7,700' is in a bowl. The dense cold air just dumps out of the mountains and floods the town. It's a gorgeous place

70's in the daytime, 40's at night. It's a perfect summer break from the Louisiana heat.

Pretty nice, instead of skiing you can white water raft, hike, bike trails. The drive is beautiful.

Also smoked a lot of weed, but dont do that if you have kids.

Ouray and Telluride are great day trips from Montrose…we did both last fall. Summer is a great time for jeep tours, breweries and rafting.
